Overview
"Feedback from parents and staff was exceptional. Well done!"
EE-Awwwwww! ‘The Donkey’s Tale’ is a cute mini-musical, perfect for Easter and Palm Sunday class assemblies or church performances. You get TWO time-saving scripts and six catchy songs, with all the backing tracks – so there’s no need for a pianist! Add donkey character masks, PowerPoint lyrics and scenery, sheet music and more, and you’ve got everything you need for a fabulous children’s Easter play that’s easy to rehearse and stage in just a few days.
Please note: this script first appeared in The Easter Assembly Collection, where it’s still included as a play only. Here, we’ve adapted the script and added songs and resources to turn it into a mini-musical.

Scripts
TWO SCRIPTS: You get two editable scripts, telling the same story in slightly different ways:
- PLAY SCRIPT VERSION: speaking and acting parts for a flexible cast of 30-80+ children. Printable donkey masks are included, so that’s one less costume to worry about!
- NARRATORS ONLY VERSION: no acting parts – just a straightforward retelling of the story, read by a class of children or by an adult leading an assembly.
Parts
Very flexible! Perform it with just a handful of children or over a hundred.
Running Time
Stick exactly to either script and sing every song, and the show runs for about 25 minutes. You can easily shorten or lengthen it by 5-20 minutes – suggestions are included in your purchase.
Rehearse In A Few Days
Short on rehearsal time? No problem! We know from experience that the simple version can be rehearsed in a few days. The secret? Read from the ‘narrators only’ script during the show, so nobody has lines to learn. Then share out the songs between children, classes or year groups, so nobody has more than 2 or 3 to remember. Follow this advice to the letter and you might even rehearse it in a single day!
