About us

What do we do ? – Learn2soar Music provides performance related resources for use with children aged 2 to 11+. Based in Stockport, in the North-West of England (UK), we supply schools, churches and children’s groups in over 70 countries worldwide. We provide songs, plays and musical shows for Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, Harvest, etc. Along with general children’s song collections and school assembly resources.

Who are we ?  – Learn2soar Music was founded by husband and wife, Stuart and Rachel Ross in 2003.

Stuart, a former school music advisor, still oversees the day-to-day running of Learn2soar Music, serving as its managing director. Stuart has written or co-written every title produced by Learn2soar Music. He plays a wide variety of instruments including guitar, piano and drums and has written and published hundreds of children’s songs.

Rachel is also a company director but plays less of a day-to-day role now due to her very busy job as a primary school Headteacher. She has co-written several songs/ musicals and is also an accomplished musician.

Stuart & Rachel have three children – two grown-up children and one who’s still very young:

The eldest, Corinne, also plays a significant role in Learn2soar Music by helping to run the office as well as looking after Learn2soar’s social media. Corinne is also fantastic musician and has co-written a number of Learn2soar musicals, as well as having sung on several Learn2soar titles during her younger years.

That is also the case for Corinne’s younger brother Jamie who plays drums and guitar. Jamie also sung on a few titles as a child, also co-wrote one musical and until recently still often helped in the day-to-day running of the Learn2soar office. However, he now runs his own part-time gardening business, while studying for a theology degree.

Stuart & Rachel’s youngest child Harry is still in Infant School, so he’s a bit young to have a role yet, though Stuart is working on it!

Learn2soar Music has a number of other regular employees/contributors, but special mention has to go to Stuart’s mother Annette, a retired teacher with over 40 years’ experience, who has co-written several scripts, as well as editing and advising on every title we’ve ever produced.

So, as you can see, Learn2soar Music is very much a family run business, and even those employees who aren’t direct family members are still made to feel very much a part of the Learn2soar family.

How did it all begin ?  – Here is an interview with Stuart Ross, from 2013:

“When I think back to the summer of 2003 and what little we started Learn2soar with, it’s a miracle that we have grown so much. My secondment as a music advisor had come to an end and I had a choice to either go back to my old job of being a primary school teacher (which I loved doing) or starting a new business producing music for schools. The business idea won, and the rest is history… well sort of.

It’s a miracle we got through those first few years. At that time my wife was between jobs herself and we had 2 young children. We put the mortgage on hold, tightened our belts, prayed a lot and just scraped by! Only having five titles on sale at the time didn’t help and it was only by providing a high volume of school workshops, along with a grant from the Arts Council, which helped us to live from day-to-day.

As I was gradually able to produce more and more titles each year, the sales grew and the real turning point came in 2007 when I produced… ‘C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S Spells Christmas For Juniors’.

… The glowing feedback from schools was like nothing we’d ever seen before. It was simply overwhelming and then the icing on the cake came when the BBC broadcast a large section of it over the Christmas holidays. The following year, sales went through the roof and have been growing steadily ever since.

We estimate that we’ve now supplied music to around 40% of the UK and Ireland’s schools and we regularly sell to customers in about 70 countries around the world. Hopefully over the next 10 years we can see Learn2soar… soar even higher! To all our customers, friends, family, supporters, helpers… thank you so much for all your love, support and encouragement.”

Why are you called Learn2soar? Two reasons: Firstly, our advertising slogan (which is also our mission statement) sums it up succinctly:

‘Learn2soar Music: Helping Children Soar To New Heights Of Musical Excellence!’

This means that in all our publications, we aim to provide quality, easy-to-use resources, which enable teachers to encourage their children to soar as high as they can in their musical and performance abilities.

And secondly, the word Learn2soar is also loosely based on one of Stuart and Rachel’s favourite Bible verses. Isaiah 40:31 says: “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” (New Living Translation)
