H-A-R-V-E-S-T Spells Harvest comes with two editable, ready-to-use harvest thanksgiving assemblies:

(1) A time-saving class performance script. We’ve deliberately made it bumper-sized, so there are plenty of ideas and lines even for the largest class – and if it’s too long, simply cut whatever you like from the editable version. Each letter of HARVEST has its own subject (H is for Harvest, A is for Autumn, R is for Reaping…), and it includes ‘the harvest alphabet’, a ‘saving the earth top ten countdown’ and a short 5-10 minute play called ‘The King And The Seed’.

(2) The ‘Story Version’, designed for one adult to read out, with all the best bits of the assembly in a storytelling format. For younger children, try Our First Harvest.

Very flexible! Performed as written, the assembly has spoken lines for at least 80 children. That includes a play called ‘The King & The Seed’, with main acting parts for 4 children, several walk-on parts and 17 narrators’ parts. Using the editable script, you could even divide it up into around 150 speaking parts – or simply shorten it for just a handful of children.

The children’s performance version runs for about 30-40 minutes, depending on how many of the songs, scripts and ideas you use. The teacher-presented version is a lot shorter, and both are easy to shorten or lengthen with the editable material.

Most of the songs have no obvious religious references, apart from a new version of the old hymn ‘Come, Ye Thankful People, Come’. Likewise, most of the script has no obvious religious references, though a few sections include religious thoughts and prayers. These are easy to remove with the editable script, so there’s something here to suit everyone.

Reading the assembly yourself? A ready-to-use version needs virtually no preparation. Using the children’s script? We believe a simple version can be taught in just a few hours, while the full version will take several days. Every group is different, though, so please listen to the songs and look through the material before deciding how much time your pupils will need.
